Our Mission

Evolving to a self-determined future. 

The optimal way for the Center to fulfill its mission moving forward is to be privately owned and operated. This fundraising campaign supports the evolution and continuation of The Center, to deliver the following:

  • A site near campus

  • Programming to continue fulfilling the mission

  • Scholarships to ensure student need is supported

The purpose and intention of this evolution is to ensure our community takes full responsibility for the consistent delivery of this important service to students, provided by the Center.

Our Vision

Since the opening 1991, the Center has existed as a Safe Space for students at the university to find community, develop as leaders, and host programs and events anchored in their experience. The Center welcomes everyone regardless of racial identity. It prides itself as a place where all can engage, educate themselves, and challenge various privileged identities.

A task force of alumni and community members has come together to implement the next phase of The Center. The Task Force has organized itself into the following action committees:

  1. Fundraising

  2. Securing the New Site for The Center

  3. Communication

  4. Student Engagement

  5. Community Engagement

We acknowledge the Center;’s value to UC students.  We recognize its legacy must carry on despite the political landscape.
